Traffic Violations

If you are found guilty of a traffic violation, your driving record may be charged with demerit points. The court will not determine the number of points assessed against your record. The court will merely report the conviction to the Department of Motor Vehicles and the Department will assess the number of points against your record, depending on the charge.

When the demerit points total 12 within a one year period by date of violations, your license will be suspended or revoked. Also, any person who holds a probationary license will be assessed double the demerit points for the second and all subsequent violations. Any conviction for Failure to Yield the Right of Way will be ordered to attend a right of way class by the Department of Motor Vehicles.
