
The Rosemary Garfoot Public Library serves the community through provision of materials and services designed to create a community of life-long learners. The library provides access to materials in a variety of formats to meet the educational, recreational and information needs of the citizens in a manner reflective of the resource base. The library is open 53 hours per week and is staffed by three professional employees and four paraprofessionals.
Library hours are: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday 9-8; Tuesday, Friday 9-5 and Saturday 10-2.
Library Board
The library is governed by a five member board of trustees. The board is comprised of representatives from: the village, Berry township, Cross Plains township, school district and village board.
System Membership
The library is a member of the South Central Library System and also receives assistance and guidance from the Dane County Library Service.
Collections
Approximately 27,000 fiction and non-fiction volumes are contained in the library collection. The library also offers access to over 100periodical titles, 5 newspapers, over 1700 videocassettes/DVDs, approximately 1000 audio items including audio books and compact discs, and a selection of multimedia theme kits for children. Patrons have access to specialized collections including a business reference center containing such resources as Value Line and Morning Star, a parenting collection known as "The Parent Zone"; a well-rounded classic literature collection; and a pamphlet file containing travel information and other topical information.
Technology
- LINK: The library is a member of a consortium of 49 automated libraries known as LINK(Library Interchange Network). LINK affords patrons access to millions of items owned by member libraries. Via terminals in the library, patrons can peruse the holdings of LINK libraries, select materials and have them sent directly to the Rosemary Garfoot Public Library for pick-up. Patrons are notified by "Harry" the automated calling system when items are in.
- IAC: Patrons can access thousands of magazine articles through a periodical database known as Information Access(IAC). Articles can be printed at the library or e-mailed to personal e-mail accounts.
- WorldCat: This is a database of more than 41 million records describing book and other library materials from around the world. Items not found in LINKcat or WISCAT may be requested through inter library loan.
- netLibrary: This is a collection of over 6000 searchable full text, on-line books.
- Literature Resource Center: This is a database used to find information about authors and their works. Over 90,000 novelists, poets, essayists, journalists and other writers are included.
- Proquest: Offers access to regional and national newspaper indexes, some in full text.
- PCS: The following stand-alone stations are available for patron use.

Programming
- Storytime: The library offers preschool storytime throughout the year. Storytime sessions are usually thematic and include three books, songs and fingerplays, story props and crafts. Schedules are available at the library.
- itsy bitsy storytime: itsy bitsy storytime is a special lap sit storytime for children 2 and under.
- Summer Library Program: Summer library program is held during the summer months with programs designed for preschoolers through teens. Formal programs are held 5-6 weeks with a reading incentive program continuing through the summer.
- National Library Week: National Library Week is celebrated in April. Contests are held for all ages and occasionally a special evening is planned.
- National Children's Book Week: This special week is held in November. Various contests and activities are planned for kids.
- Friends of the Library Annual Book Sale: Held in August by the library's volunteer organization, the Friends of the Library.
- Book discussion Group: The library book discussion group for adults mets the last Tuesday of the month. Book Discussion Group is open to anyone wishing to discuss good literature and may be attended on a drop-in basis. Selections are posted one month in advance.
Friends of the Library Organization
The Friends of the Library is a volunteer organization and library advocacy group whose members assist with funding for programming and special projects. Membership dues are: Individual - $5, Family - $10 and Lifetime - $40.
