The Village has been planning for street and utility improvements during the 2023 construction season, in the following areas:
- Brewery Road (Valley Street to Laufenberg Boulevard)
- Park Street (Market Street to Water Street)
- Glaciers Edge Square parking lot
Brewery Road:
The work on Brewery Road will replace all the existing water main, reconstruct the sanitary sewer and storm sewer as necessary, replacement of the Brewery Creek culvert, complete reconstruction of the existing street pavement, construction of a new asphalt path along the west side, and replacement of the curb and gutter.
Park Street
The work on Park Street will replace the existing water main and reconstruction of the existing street pavement with replacement of curb and gutter.
Time Frame
The contractor anticipates starting work as early as the week of July 10th. The 2023 portion of the project (all work except the final layer of asphalt), is anticipated to be completed in late September. In the Spring of 2024, the contractor will install the upper layer of asphalt pavement, along with the permanent pavement markings.
What does this mean for residents that live in these areas?
During the installation of the new water main, there will be periods of time (2-4 hours) when some residents in the area will be without water service. Because of the location of the existing water main, some homes may need temporary water connections via above-ground piping or hoses. The contractor will notify all affected residents prior to any scheduled service interruptions. Water shut-downs will be required to tie the new main into the existing water main, and also during the switch-over from a home's old lateral to its new lateral.
The contractor will maintain access to all homes as much as possible during construction. However, there will be periods of time that trenching will cross driveways or intersections and will require temporary closures. Residents will be notified prior to any driveway closure so they may move their vehicles, if needed. The contractor will attempt to restore access to driveways as soon as practicable, but there may be periods/locations where on-street parking will be necessary (either on the project site or side streets).
During the construction of the new curb and gutter and new concrete driveways, no traffic will be allowed on the new concrete for seven days, to allow the concrete to harden properly.
The work will require replacement of all water laterals, which involves excavations from the main to your property line (approximately 15 feet from the current road edge). Any residents with landscaping, sprinkler lines, invisible fence, or other private items in or around this area, are advised to have them relocated prior to construction beginning to avoid damage.
- Emergency vehicles will have access throughout the project.
- For garbage pick-up, please mark your garbage/recycling toters with your address and simply bring them out to the street on the usual day.
- Mail service may need to be temporarily relocated to a nearby intersection if requested by the post office. More information on this will be provided if needed.
Will Brewery Road be closed to through traffic?
It is anticipated that access along the entirety of Brewery Road will be open at the end of each day, except during replacement of the Brewery Creek culvert. During this time, Brewery Road will be impassable at the creek crossing (near Brewery Road and Thinnes Street). It is anticipated that the culvert work will be completed in 5 days.
Who can I contact if I have questions or concerns?
During construction a representative from Town and Country Engineering will be present. He can be reached at 608-477-5998 and is a good first point of contact should any questions or concerns arise before, during, or after construction. You can also contact the Village Office at 608-798-3241.
