[ARCHIVED] New Garbage Toters

garbage cart service

We are so excited for our new garbage and recycling program to start in the Village. Town and Country Sanitation has been moving away from our old garbage system and shifting over to carts or 'toters' with all of their clients. Toters will be provided by Town and Country for all residents in the Village. They will be delivered between January 28th, 2022 and February 18th, 2022. The first date of service for the toters is Thursday, February 24th. Any garbage and recycling put in your toters before that date, will not be collected. Garbage will still be collected every Thursday, with recycling being picked up EVERY OTHER week. February 24th is a garbage and recycling pick-up day. Please see the end of this message for a link to the garbage and recycling calendar.

As with any change, there are bound to be lots of questions. We hope that we can help answer a few of the more common questions we are hearing.

-How do we get our toters?: Toters will be dropped off at each residence (unless you have a dumpster).

-How big are the toters?: If you would like to see the toters, please stop into the Village Office. We have them near the front door for you to see. Each residence will get a 95-gallon recycle toter and a 95-gallon garbage toter.

-What if the 95-gallon toter is too large for the amount of garbage I have?: If you would like a smaller 65-gallon toter, you may call Town and Country Sanitation at 800-626-1915 AFTER the 95-gallon toter is delivered to you. They will then switch out the garbage toter ONLY. You have 30 days (until March 31, 2022) to make the change to a smaller toter, without a fee. After that date, there is a $20 fee to switch to a smaller garbage toter.

-Can I get a smaller recycle toter?: All recycle toters are 95-gallons. They do this because recycles are picked up on an every other week basis. So smaller recycle toters are not an option.

-I use a LOT of recyclables and I'm not sure if one 95-gallon toter will work for me. Can I get a second?: The 95-gallon toter is 4 times the size of the old blue recycle bins. If you feel that it still isn't large enough for you, please contact Town and Country Sanitation at 800-626-1915 to get an extra recycle toter. There is a monthly $15 fee that will need to be paid directly to Town and Country for this extra toter.

-I have a large family and a 95-gallon toter will not be big enough for my family. Can I get an extra toter?: Please contact Town and Country Sanitation at 800-626-1915 to get an extra garbage toter. There is a monthly $15 fee that will need to be paid directly to Town and Country for this extra toter.

-Why are recyclables picked up every other week instead of weekly?: Every other week recyclables is standard with the toters. Because the recycle toter is 4 times larger than the old recycle bins, it often takes residents longer to fill these. This is also more efficient for their staff.

-What if I have been on an Amazon shopping spree and have a lot of cardboard boxes that won't fit in my recycle toter?: Town and Country Sanitation recommends breaking down large cardboard into 2'x2' pieces. However, if you have more cardboard that won't fit, due to a move or Amazon shopping spree, call Town and Country. They can send a cardboard truck out to pick up extras that won't fit. They can be reached at 800-626-1915.

-What do I do with my old garbage cans?: We recommend keeping them and repurposing them if you can. Or you can call Town and Country Sanitation to have them picked up. Their number is 800-626-1915.

-What do I do with my old recycle bin?: We recommend keeping them and repurposing them if you can. Or you can put them in your garbage toter on the day of the first pick-up. Unfortunately they cannot be recycled as the plastic is too thick.

-When will the new service start?: The new service will start on Thursday, February 24th. Do NOT use the toters until this time. Town and Country will not be able to pick-up garbage put into the toters before February 24th. February 24th is also a garbage and recycling pick-up day.

-These toters are really nice, but I'm moving out of the Village. Can I take my toter with me when I move?: No. Toters are the property of Town and Country Sanitation and are to remain at the address that they are delivered to.

-Can I label my toter with my address?: Yes you can! This will help assure that your toters remain at your residence.
